# Breckenridge Lands builds mountain dream homes and communities in Summit County Colorado.
Over the past 50 years, Breckenridge Lands has created a legacy of excellence in building communities with direct access to the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Founded on a love of the mountain lifestyle, our rich heritage speaks volumes to the passion and depth of our commitment to this magical place.
In 1958, with the exuberance of the original gold miners, a group of geologists endured an adventurous expedition crossing over the Continental Divide into Breckenridge. The party discovered something far more valuable than the gold they originally set out to find - the Ten Mile Range and the promise of a true four-season mountain community, Breckenridge. Hearing of this discovery, Ralph Rounds, President of Rounds and Porter Lumber Company located in Wichita, Kansas was so intrigued by their findings that he immediately set off to Breckenridge, staked his claim, and within a two-year period became the largest private landowner in Summit County, Colorado.
By this time, Breckenridge and the Rocky Mountain Region were already attracting numerous summer outdoor enthusiasts but Ralph Rounds, along with his sons Dwight and Bill Rounds, set their sights on answering one question: What will people do in the winter? The three formed Breckenridge Lands, Inc. and surged forward with great enthusiasm towards answering this question and promoting a vision for the future of Breckenridge. With a toast on the top of Peak 8 in 1961, Breckenridge Lands and two Norwegian ski champions launched the Breckenridge Ski Area.
Since 1958 and the subsequent launch of a successful world-class ski area, Breckenridge Lands has always looked to the future of Breckenridge with great optimism. Soon after parting with the Ski Area, Breckenridge Lands redirected its focus to creating Breckenridge landmark neighborhoods where residents would have access to a wealth of outdoor activities and cultural events. With a focus on designing communities with single-family homes, Breckenridge Lands continues to play a critical role in preserving and enhancing Breckenridge’s unique character.
Breckenridge Lands has also designed and constructed many of the oldest and most distinguished neighborhoods in Breckenridge. These neighborhoods are home to locals and part-time residents alike but all properties offer a variety of public and private amenities to its residents. Strong design guidelines, respectful and well-managed homeowners associations, easy access to trails, and shared open spaces are common to all Breckenridge Lands developments.
